Back to School: Stay Healthy and Balanced

September 9th, 2024

As we prepare for the new school year, let’s prioritize health and well-being. With the excitement of new classes and activities, it’s easy to overlook the importance of health, especially with flu season approaching.

Get Your Flu Shot!

September 17 is Get Ready For Flu Day, a great reminder to ensure you and your family are protected against the flu virus. Flu shots are crucial for preventing illness and to help protect your child. Practice Good Hygiene Habits.

These simple habits can significantly reduce the likelihood of illness during the school year:

  • Teach your children the importance of regular handwashing, especially before meals and after using the restroom.
  • Encourage them to cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing, ideally using their elbows to prevent the spread of germs.

Provide Healthy Meals.

Start their day off right. A nutritious breakfast can enhance concentration and energy levels throughout the day.

  • Ensure your child eats balanced meals, including plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Send them with a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Keep the Conversation Going.

The transition back to school can be overwhelming for many children and parents, leading to increased anxiety and stress.

  • Encourage open conversations about mental health with your children, letting them know it’s okay to express their feelings and seek help if needed.
  • Reach out to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through your ZOLL benefits, to find 24/7 support via phone, email, or chat with experienced clinicians.
  • Familiarize yourself with school support resources and remind your child that seeking help is a sign of strength.

By taking these proactive steps, we can create a healthier and more balanced environment for our family as our children head back to school.
