Gain or Loss of Other Coverage?

If you or your dependent loses existing health insurance, or gains other coverage, you may qualify for a special enrollment period. You have 31 days from the date of the event to enroll in ZOLL’s plans, add or remove dependents, or cancel coverage, for the following reasons:

  • Losing Your Source of Coverage: Most people get their insurance from their jobs, and many students get it from their schools. If you or your dependents lose coverage under a spouse/partner’s plan, or from school, you need a special enrollment period to replace that coverage. You have 31 days from the date coverage ends to enroll in ZOLL’s benefits. Learn more about qualifying life events.
  • Turning 26: The Affordable Care Act allows children to remain on their parents’ insurance until they reach the age of 26. This means when you turn 26, you may need to establish your own coverage within 31 days of your coverage ending. If you have a child who is turning 26, coverage under the ZOLL plan will automatically terminate at the end of the month of their 26th birthday. If you or a dependent is losing ZOLL coverage, COBRA continuation coverage information will be sent in the mail.
  • Losing Program Eligibility: Public programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and CHIP provide health insurance to individuals and families that cannot afford it themselves. If you currently rely on one of these programs and receive notice that you’re losing eligibility, you may qualify for a special enrollment period to elect coverage through ZOLL’s health plans.
  • Gaining Other Health Care Coverage: If you or a covered dependent becomes eligible for other health care coverage through a different employer or becomes entitled to Medicare or Medicaid, you may request to drop coverage from ZOLL by providing proof of alternative coverage. Visit Workday to process this change or contact your local HR Benefit Advocate for assistance.

Follow this Checklist for Next Steps:

checkboxNeed coverage with ZOLL? Visit Workday within 31 days of the event to enroll in benefits. For more information on how to enroll in Workday, review these job aids.

  • Provide supporting documentation that clearly states the effective date of the coverage loss. You will need to upload this documentation into Workday.
  • If you are adding a dependent to your coverage due to their loss of alternative coverage (not due to marriage or the birth/adoption of a child), you must provide documentation confirming the loss of coverage as well as a marriage or birth certificate to verify dependent eligibility.

checkboxIf you have a child turning 26, their coverage under the ZOLL plan will automatically terminate at the end of the month in which they turn 26. Parents are encouraged to review their contribution rates reflecting the removal of the dependent from their insurance, as well as to update contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) if enrolled in these plans.

  • If you or a dependent is losing ZOLL coverage, COBRA continuation coverage information will be sent in the mail.
